Hello world, how are we all today? Greetings from a little taste of paradise, and here is my offering for my lazy Sunday morning....
After peeling the flower off my face and sorting out the fur on the inside of my mouth it was time to chill. And what better way to start than breakfast on the beach. Its included with this room and I watched as they busied themselves below my balcony setting up the tables and rigging up dodgy looking extension leads to plug in the 1960's toasters (I was hoping that there was more than bread as Lent is still going strong....)
I got myself looking decent, plastered myself in sun cream and mozzie spray and took my spot. Lovely. Cool breeze, waves lapping at the shore, locals busying themselves along the beach, smiles and hello's from all. Now you never know the form with breakfast on the first day, anywhere in the world, so the trick is to see what the others are doing. Only 2 sitting there (it was only 7.30) and they were eating toast Then before I could say 'what's on offer' a lovely lady appeared from the hut with 2 fried eggs, salad and 2 things that can only be described as anaemic saveloys. Thank you but no I said, hugely apologetic but she didn't seem to mind as she took it back and ate it herself.
I had read on my faithful friend trip advisor, that breakfast was amazing as long as you liked eggs. Not wrong, as they continued to emerge from the hut in different forms, but as I am a bit of an egg snob (Edwina Currys comments will always stay in my mind) and bread is still off (I made a promise) I settled for a second banana.
Then I took off for a little stroll up the beach, enjoying the quiet and taking in the really low key, local vibe. It's not commercial here which is what makes it different, its unspoilt. At the minute, there are some developments but they seem to be high end apartments, I hope they don't change the feel of the place, that's what makes it different.
Anyway, I digress, today was about chilling out, getting the feel of the place and planning some trips. I wandered up to the little town, lots of places to eat, a couple of local shops and met a fair few fellow travellers on the way. Got as far as the big hotel and needed to go no further and came back, stopping at a little stall for a pancake (well I had missed breakfast). Popped into one of the many tourist information shops (more of them than charity shops on a British high street) and booked the all important boat trip. A holiday is not a holiday without a boat trip. And you are spoilt for choice here, there are so many beautiful islands to explore.
Choice made (more about that tomorrow after the trip) I headed back to the hotel to find my spot for the day. 4 different spots later, I settled on my sun bed, by the swing, underneath the ban yan tree (I have no idea what the tree is called but ban yan sounds good to me). I sat and watched as the locals fixed their long tail boats, took off fishing then came back, ate dinner, played with their children and just chilled out too. I stayed in the shade as the sweat tache-o-meter had warned me of sticky weather early on, but here there is a strong sea breeze to dry it off and make your face sting with sea salt and sweat. Just like a windy day down at Margate.....
I had a wander for a bit of lunch, stopping at a little place up the street a whole 100 yards with bamboo huts and enjoyed some seafood and spring rolls, picked up some supplies at the shop and headed back to my spot.
Here I stayed until the I needed my air con fix. You know, all this that I do for you and my blog is exhausting. I have to find the right spot for a great picture, find the right place to eat, having to eat at many to choose, take pictures of it all, do funny things to make you laugh, yadda yadda yadda.....
All dried off and ready to head out for the sunset, another thing I do for you guys. Had a drink at the Sunset Bar and then back to the little Jamaican place, finding out that my camera does so many other things if you don't just put it on auto shoot, had a couple of beers and watched the beautiful sunset. Got chatting to the Rastafarian owner of the bar who is actually Malaysian not Thai, and surprisingly he cooked himself some dinner and offered me some, so I sat and ate chicken curry, vegetable curry with other accompaniments (one being an omlete, I told you they like eggs here, not for me thanks again). Then it was time for home, and I said my thanks and headed back to bed. I did have every intention of maybe going back out but the Chang had made me a little chilled so I just showered, lay on my bed (another one that I cannot reach the sides of when I do a human starfish) and woke this morning again to the sounds of breakfast being prepared.
So, that was my Sunday, pics to follow and they do contain some disgusting images of beautiful scenery, but I was a chore taking them and I did it all for you, my faithful followers.
TTFN xxxx
