.....well 4 actually, but this was my first of this trip and the title wouldn't have been so exciting.
Now, where was I? Oh yes the bright lights of Bangkok coming into view as the plane landed a little bit sideways.
I was here at last, happy memories of sights, sounds and smells came flooding back, as did the sweat tache as soon as my face let the aircraft. But the one I didn't remember was the airport smelling of fish. I'm sure it was only temporary.
So after I had navigated the passport control (a scary event in any country, especially after 4 attempts at the landing card, they don't take lightly to mistakes) and found my faithful holdall squeezed between two large boxes on the carousel it was time to find my lift to my hotel.
Private limousine transfer actually, and I was a little late so I was hoping he hadn't given up on me. After walking for what seemed like ages (I didn't pay attention to how many gates there were) there was the little board I was looking for held by a wonderfully smiley chap! And we were off, racing through the terminal to find the car, Ko (for that was his name - I think, it started with a K and didn't have many letters in it) struggling with my bags despite offering to carry one.
The car was a treat, all leather interior (which I stuck to) air con and complimentary water, and we were soon stuck in Bangkok's infamous traffic. 7 lanes of stationary traffic all merging into 2. Oh we did laugh, Ko and I!! He was so sweet.
The streets thronged with people, night markets and food stalls, shops and little carts selling all sorts of wares. Awesome. Just as wonderful as I remembered. Then my hotel loomed into view, the one with the riverside setting and lush looking pool (on the interweb anyway) and I was so happy. LUSH!!! An absolute oasis in the madness.
Beautiful furnishings in the lobby, stunning toilets and the friendliest people, all topped off with a location to die for.
After my free drink and little discussion about tipping (it was never customary before and it still isn't really but I didn't want to embarrass myself by just saying cheerio whilst someone hangs around the door) I was shown to my room and the lushness got even more lush!! I have taken some pics but I doubt they will do it justice, but it was everything I was expecting and more. When a hotel has a light that comes on automatically in the wardrobe, you know you have arrived.....
I then set about unpacking, whilst skipping round talking to myself, humming and moving things around, safe in the knowledge that the maid will put them all back in the right place again tomorrow.
They really have thought of everything in this hotel. All the little touches make it. So once I was all unpacked and my blog updated it was time for food and beer!!
Now the hotel is right by the Koh San Road which is a really popular bustling backpacker region, but I wasn't ready to explore just yet so I settled for food and beer round the pool. OMG the pool!! And the decking, and the massive day beds and canopies and the river........you get the picture.
So after the most delicious seafood soup that made my tongue tingle for hours after, and an ice cold Singha beer it was time to hit the sack. And what a sack, the most comfortable bed ever and so big I couldn't touch the sides as I lay like a big human starfish and slid off into the land of nod in the land of smiles.......
